Today we'd like to introduce you to Kimberly Culbertson. Kimberly is the owner of Beauty Babe Club - San Diego’s modern BROWS, LASH, HYALURONIC FILLERS, and SPRAY TAN studio specializing in EFFORTLESS Beauty.

Can you walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today? 

Hi, my name is Kim! I’m originally from San Diego and I moved away about nine years ago to start my fashion career in LA. For the past nine years, I’ve been creating, entertaining, designing, traveling, and working as a fashion stylist. In the past 2.5 years, I decided that I wanted to start a new business called Bronzed Babe Club and Beauty Babe Club here in San Diego. We offer a variety of beauty services from SPRAY TANS, microblading, lashes, fillers, etc. As well as a girl meet up group with other women in the beauty industry, that’s where the “babe club” comes in and share business ideas and discuss pretty much everything and anything! I feel that the past nine years traveling the world and living outside San Diego showed me so many new ways and exposed me to another world of creativity that I wanted to move back home to bring all the new things I have learned and apply them to my business here in San Diego. I’ve always been known as a forecaster when it comes to fashion, beauty, traveling, food, and entertainment so a lot of my services I offer aren’t even available here in San Diego yet. For example, the Hyaluron Pen injector which is a new technique to receive fillers without a needle! How awesome is that??

Tell us about your company or what you do and known for?

I started training and apprenticing under another Permanent Makeup artist in LA. I wanted to create some kind of buzz for my microblading that was an easy way to get clientele and to cross market myself but didn’t have the funds or even a home in SD to start an actual brick and mortar, I didn’t even have a residence here! LOL. I had an idea to start a mobile spray tan company. At first, I didn’t put much effort into it all then I decided to start an Instagram page for it and within two weeks I was fully booked!!! Then I started booking larger groups of girls for big events such as Coachella, Stage Coach, dance teams, and for bridal bazar! SO I thought hmmm I might have something here. I named my spray tan company Bronzed Babe Club, and then from that Birthed Beauty Babe Club. Beauty Babe Club has all my beauty services. Microblading, lash lifts, and hyaluronic fillers, What sets me apart from anyone else is the skills of forecasting. I see trends happening way before other cities do. Yes, cities..

What are you most proud of when it comes to your work?

1000% Making women feel confident and a "Babe" every damn day. I mean girls do run the world.. ;)

Were there any struggles or challenges along the way? How did you overcome it?

I think the biggest struggle was not necessarily trying to start the business itself. The hardest struggle has been “fear” of not being good enough and being terrible at my services. I’m NOT the kinda person that just wants to make a quick buck off of you. I tend to put a lot of pressure on myself to make sure the results are well over expected. So when I first started out I felt that I wasn’t good at all. Even though people around me were telling me that I was absolutely crazy and that my work was amazing I still had a mental block of fear. I probably took anywhere from 30- 40 clients before I actually staring charging clients. A lot of my friends thought I was crazy for offering so many free microblading sessions in the beginning but I was NOT OK charging until I knew it was an art piece they could take home. I look at my skills as an artist. I have to create in my every day life and its the same for any of the services I offer. It’s my “artwork” at the end of the day and it represents me and my business. I don’t feel that it was bad business for doing so many free sessions in the beginning because I know that it gave me the skills to really overcome my fear and to perfect my craft. All I want to do with everything in my life is to create beautiful work. The business side has always come easy to me. Connecting with people and being a natural “runner” or leader has always been in my blood.

What are your personal hobbies outside of your passion/work?

Traveling. I grew up on a military based and lived in Hawaii for my most of my childhood. I moved a lot because I came from a military family so I feel that Im always searching for an adventure something outside my home. My mom is also Korean and growing up with mix cultures also opened up my eyes to other things outside a typical American family. I've been to 34 countries and a lot of them I've already been to 3-4x because I love the culture so much! I can't even tell you how many cities I've been to.. That has to be in 200+ range.. Traveling is a part of my soul.
